Welcome to Kids Love A Mystery Week!
Monday, February 23 through Saturday, February 28, 1998
We are delighted to invite you to join in our celebration of
Kids Love A Mystery Week.
Do you like to solve problems? Then you've already discovered the fun
and excitement of mysteries.
You're not too crazy about reading? We've got the answer for
that. Track down one good mystery, and give it a try, preferably at bedtime.
You'll discover that mysteries are so scary,
suspenseful, and fun to read that you'll want to try another...
and another... and another.
During this week we've got lots of interesting things for you
to do.
Go to the "Kids" section of this website to find short mystery
stories you can read and solve. Also while you're here, sign up
for the TheCase.com Kids Club to receive mysteries by email.
Want to know exactly what a mystery story is? Or why kids
like mysteries? Or when book publishers began publishing
mysteries for children and young adults? You can find the answers
to these questions and more in The History of Mysteries for Kids
and Teens.
If you're in the fourth, fifth, or sixth grade, ask your
teacher to check the "Tips for Teachers" section
of this website. They'll find information about using mysteries
in the classroom, including mysteries on the Internet they can use.
You and your classmates can also write short mystery stories that will
be displayed at participating Barnes & Noble bookstores. All
young authors who enter their stories will receive certificates
of honor from Mystery Writers of America.
While you're at the bookstore check out their displays of
mysteries for children and young adults. If there's a mystery
bookstore in your area, look for mysteries there, too. There's also
a website called MysteryBookstore.com where you can get them.
Ask if they're going to have visiting mystery book authors
with autographings. You may meet the author of one of your
favorite books. And you may discover a new book so exciting you
can't put it down.
Find out if your local Barnes & Noble store is going to
celebrate Kids Love A Mystery Week by presenting a
mystery play for kids. Mystery Writers of America has contributed a one
act play that can be produced and acted by high school or middle
school drama students at any of the B&N bookstores. Want to be
one of the actors? Tell your drama teacher where to get the
information.
Authors of juvenile and young adult mysteries, who are
members of Mystery Writers of America and Mysteries for Minors,
are eager to visit your schools during Kids Love A Mystery Week
to talk to you about writing mysteries. For more information,
go to the "Bookstore Events" page.
Have fun and happy reading!
Joan Lowery Nixon, President
